Sometimes the best stops aren't the ones you planned.
A winter vortex forced us to change our route home from Las Vegas at the last minute, sending us south through New Mexico instead of north. What started as a weather detour turned into one of the most memorable stops of our Southwest road trip.
Home2 Suites in Alamogordo ended up being the perfect home base for exploring White Sands National Park. The spacious suite featured a kitchenette with an apartment-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, and plenty of room for our family to spread out and relax after a day of adventure.

As we passed near the Trinity Site, the story was unfolding in the audiobook at exactly that point in history. One of those travel moments you couldn't plan if you tried.
