A quick overview of the Historic Downtown District of Hannibal MO.
During the time we were in Hannibal many of the shops were at limited capacity still so we decided to wait until we could go in to do a full video of the museums. Instead we walked the riverfront hoping to catch the Riverboat, unfortunately in May during the week it only operates once a day. We literally walked up as it was pushing off.
Hannibal has done a beautiful job with the riverfront. There was a great park for the kids to run some of their energy out while we rested at a picnic shelter and easy access to the bathrooms. The train tracks are very close but there is a fence blocking the children from getting close.
We ate lunch at the Mark Twain Dinette because who wouldn’t be drawn to the spinning giant mug on a pole! BUT that was probably our highlight. The other thing that made me want to stop eat here was that it is a Maid-Rite unfortunately we didn’t have a great experience. I try to give the benefit of the doubt but while the portions were large there was no flavor and not cooked completely. The service was slow even with several employees enjoying the weather on the back steps. I do hope that maybe we visited on an off day and their overall service improves.
The Dutch Country General Store was the perfect ending to the trip downtown. We loved walking through being taken back and make sure to stop at the back for a free cup of ice cream! Great for a hot day.
